Secondary Metabolites in Fruit Crops: Health Benefits
( 381 reads)
Plant-based foods, such as fruits and nuts contain significant amounts of bioactive phytochemicals, may provide desirable health benefits beyond basic nutrition to reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
Recent Advances on Gene Transfer Methods in Fruit Crops
( 411 reads)
Agrobacterium-mediated transformation and microprojectile bombardment based transformation are standard laboratory techniques in plant labs. However in the recent past development of alternative marker free system technology and cisgenics are some other relevant advance in fruit species transformation.
Development of Transgenic in Fruit Crops
( 798 reads)
In the last two decades, genetic transformation of fruit crops has focused mainly on enhancing resistance to biotic stresses, increasing tolerance against abiotic stresses, modified plant growth habit and fruit quality. There are few cases of commercial application of these transgenic plants
Inheritance Pattern of Quality Traits in Fruit Crops
( 640 reads)
Breeding for fruit quality traits is complex due to the polygenic (quantitative) nature of the genetic control of these traits such as fruit size in mango, fruit flavour and odour in papaya and TSS in grapes. In citrus several undesirable characters such as small fruit size , seediness and paleness of colour appear to be dominant, making the prediction of hybridization results difficult.
