Adult stem cells are the undifferentiated cells which can divide by cell division and can replace the dying cells. These cells are present in the whole body and have the ability to regenerate into more differentiated cells. Adult stem cells generate many different types of the cells. Scientists are still making research about the adult stem cells and are observing that the adult stem cells are present in all types of the tissues and have the ability to differentiate.
Tissue Repairing by Adult Stem cells:-
Adult stem cells are also called as somatic stem cells. The number of stem cells in the adults is less in numbers. First it as thought adult stem cells are present only in the blood cells and skin cells but later the advance studies show that adult stem cells are also present in the neural tissues also. It was believed that adult stem cells are only present in the tissues in which they reside but studies and research have shown that these cells can cross the barrier of their tissues and can reside in other tissues also.

Adult stem cells or hematopoietic stem cells have the ability to replace damaged gut cells with healthy cells and blood cells can also be repaired with these stem cells. But recent studies have shown that the organ transplantation is also possible with the adult stem cells in the sense that the stem cells of one organ can be used to produce cells of another organ.

Tissues are regenerated by two methods.

1) In one method, growth factors and cytokines release signals for stem cells to differentiate into different cells. Blood cells are repaired through this mechanism.

2) In the second method the differentiated cells can divide and also have the ability to renew themselves after damage. Endothelial cells, muscle cells and some more types of cells can be repaired through differentiated cells.

These are the adult stem cells which repair the cells when an individual gets cut by something sharp. The skin is healed by the collaboration of the two types of cells that is epidermal cells and bone marrow cells. But these cells have not the tendency to regenerate organs if people lose their organs such as legs or arms in an accident.
